You Walked Away

Stars over head,
Grass down below,
Rain falls on my face,
I lay here,
Watch your shadow go.What did I say?
What should I have said?
To ensure you didn’t go?
To make you stay?
Could I have said anything at all to make this right?
Or were you gone already
Even before this night?

I lay there staring,
At those points of light,
I run through my head,
Everything said that night,
“I love you” turns to ash in my mouth,
“I care”,
“I’ll always be there”
Empty words in the wind.

Your silhouette visable,
In the corner of my sight,
Like you are waiting for something,
A word to make it right?
But you walked away from me,
Not I from you,
Any words should be yours,
Not mine,
But I’ll not wait until the end of time.

You know I would have cared for you,
Been there forever more,
But You walked away from me my love,
Now stand there forever more.
